Glee S2E2

this is by far my favorite episode of glee yet. the main reason being that brittany, now known as brittany s. pierce, was a main character. this gives me hope because i'm hoping she can become a bit more dynamic. she has been my favorite character since the beginning, and i've been disappointed with her lack of importance in the show. part of this blog post will be devoted to all of brittany's noteworthy quotes this episode.

Glee Low

all of the performances were strong in this episode. i would just consider this the least strong.

Glee High

i loved this moment. this was brittany's dynamic moment. she proved her spot on glee by breaking out with mad song and dance skills. her resume does include being a backup dancer for beyonce.

Castle S3E2

just a little note from Taylor:

Let me start me off by saying that primetime shows are not typically my thing. I gravitate more towards a single season sci-fi; however, I always enjoy a good performance by Nathan Fillian. Now when I first saw adverts for Castle about a year ago, I was weary. I had the feeling that Nathan was beginning to go back to the dark-side of TV, in the direction of his soap opera roots. I was hooked on the halloween episode featuring Mal's "space cowboy" cameo. After a couple of episodes, the entire cast begins to draw you in. With an executive producer list featuring talent from "The X-Files," "A-Team" and "Saturday Night Live" there is no lack of production talent. The combination of the writing, Nathan's freedom to use his witty one liners, and the rest of the talented cast really bring the show together to a cohesive, enjoyable experience.

I am pretty new to the whole murder mystery genre, but I think I have the formula down. Start off with a dead body, a pinch of foreshadowing in the first ten minutes, a healthy dose of some twists and turns, and finally an interesting side story with the main character that conveniently contributes to the lightbulb moment of  understanding for the good guys, and bam, you have a murder mystery drama. This is not a bad thing, but you have to have something that sets you apart from the other shows. Most will use one or a combination of two things: creative/inventive killings or interesting characters. While Castle has a little of the first, its nothing special enough to glorify it. Where the show really exceeds is the characters. But I won't spoil the fun of discovering that for yourself.

in these moments i love, i'm going to explore the best primetime couple in all the world: amy poehler and will arnett. 

AMY

best known for: parks and recreation which just happens to be my favorite show EVER. 

well known for: SNL weekend updates and baby mamma with tina fey. 

WILL

best known for: arrested development which is another favorite show of mine. 

well known for: his new show running wilde 

together will and amy make the best married couple in hollywood. how do they do it? they're both freaking hilarious and abnormally adorable. 

together best known for: blades of glory where they play bitter rivals of jon and will.

so why am i exploring their relationship? well for one, they have been popular as of late. both of just landed awesome opportunities. amy was invited back to SNL to host this season's premiere, which was nothing less than amazing. some even say it's been the most laughable episode in many, many years. will also just landed a new show where he is the main character and a writer. will is also said to begin filming for the arrested development movie set to begin production in 2012. this is epic for some. to celebrate their new professional milestones and the recent birth of their second son, they appeared on jimmy fallon last week. i am a huge fan of jimmy fallon, so i follow him on facebook and was directed to this:

this is exactly why this couple deserves a spot in my blog. now, if only i could be half as funny or lovable as either of them.

Desperate Housewives S7E1

i've been waiting for this premiere for what seems like a year. i love desperate housewives. i may be the only person left in the world that loves desperate housewives, but i don't even care. i love the diversity of the characters. i love how they interact despite these vast differences. i love how i see a little bit of myself in each woman. i love over-the-top drama. that's why i watch half the shows i watch. and this one pulls out all the stops. every episode ends with a bang. i mean that metaphorically.

so last season ended with secrets galore. a murderer returned after being released from prison because there was proof that he didn't commit one murder, even tho he committed another one that is secret. bree's son killed carlos' mom and now she feels the need to be honest about it after 8+ years. and the hospital switched someone's baby at birth, but we haven't found out much expect they live on wisteria lane.

Glee S2E1

i watched glee as it aired. but everyone knows that glee is too amazing and way too huge to lack mention of the season premiere in this blog. i thoroughly enjoy glee just like everyone else in the world. the singing and dancing only gets annoying sometimes, but not enough to ever keep me from watching. i even asked and received the soundtrack for christmas. i want to be a glee member more than i want to be a lot of things. i sing along with my glee cd's more than what's healthy. so it's only natural that i post this. i will be talking a lot about glee, but one thing i'll always do is have my 'glee high and low.' it's based solely on my opinion of the performances of the episode. it's not based on science or professional opinion. just my opinion. feel free to disagree.

Glee Low:

this was not only awkward and weird, but the lip syncing was just off. the glasses are cute, and sunshine has an amazing voice, but this just wasn’t the best first impression. it’s not her fault; ryan murphy just screwed the pooch on this one.

Glee High:

this was amazing, in my opinion. yes, the song is a bit annoying, but it’s always good to hear every once in awhile. plus, i just think they all look so cute. and the dancing was A+. and my heart melted when artie started rapping.

90210 S3E2

i'm not sure where to even begin with this. this show is officially dead to me. i can't watch anymore. it's gotten way out of hand. for example, the season premiere was overloaded with events. rape, fatal car wreck, earthquake, divorce. and that was all within the first 20 minutes of the season premiere. where can they go from here? only down. they proved that this week. from underage drinking to an excessive party for an 18 year old with everything presented with her face on it. "naomi temporary tattoos and even some naomi permanent tattoos for a few lucky raffle winners." there's something weird about seeing shirtless waiters donning naomi bicep tattoos at a high schooler's birthday party. and there's a line being crossed when 17 year old boys are taking body shots off of a 25 year old 'bachelorette' at the local bar. it's just too much to believe and too much to take. it's a sad portrayal of reality. don't even get me started on the relationship between mr. cannon (yearbook teacher) and silver (student). now, i know this somehow happens a lot these days. students and teachers cross the appropriate line everyday. but do the 17 year old students do so while wearing short, skimpy dresses that barely cover all the essentials?

what not to wear:

see how her left breast is about to be exposed. this is not ideal when going to spend time with your teacher.

here is the biggest point that should be made about 90210 and CW in general: they bite off more than they can chew. producers create these elaborate schemes and then fail to execute. example:

• annie kills a homeless man while driving drunk after a party. then she leaves the scene. she struggles with this secret the WHOLE second season. in the season finale, she tells her parents. fast forward to season 3 and we know she did the time for her crime, but the whole situation is over. nothing more of it. how does something that becomes the main conflict in one season become so unimportant and trivial in the next? 
• another perfect example: adrianna's baby in season 1. she was pregnant the whole season. she had the baby. then what? 
• one tree hill struggles with this too. CW just sucks at closure. and CW shows are becoming more and more painful to watch. 

don't be surprised if i never blog about 90210 again. notice, i didn't even have a spoilers section because i seriously don't think anyone cares enough. i know i don't. i apologize to myself and the whole world for even watching this show ever.

One Tree Hill S8E2

one tree hill is on my list of guilty pleasure shows, but seriously, i don't know why it's not bigger. i have been with one tree hill since the very first episode. i have laughed, cried, and yelled with them. there was a season there where i didn't think i could continue this relationship. season 5, i believe it was. between the crazy babysitter and the random baby brooke fostered, it was a weird season. however, when you've been with something for 5+ years, it's hard to end it. am i glad i stayed? yes and no.
yes, i do still enjoy the shows. i like most of the characters.
no, i believe that the producers have just about exhausted every stop out there. tree hill hospital gets a lot of traffic from haley, nathan, brooke, and the rest of the gang. but i'm still holding my breath, like most of you one tree hill fans are, for peyton and lucas to make an exciting re-entry. even if it is just for a couple of episodes, i still believe it will happen, especially this season (see spoilers).
i know this blog was not born until after i watched the first episode of this season's one tree hill. for that i apologize. (i'm gonna be doing that with a lot of good shows) but i will catch you up. it's time for:

what lisa watched:
so in season 7, clay and quinn were two major characters introduced because peyton and lucas left the show. these were quite large shoes to fill. the jury is still out on whether clay and quinn succeeded. but anyways, they had an enemy as does everyone in the show. their enemy just happened to be a little crazy and wielded a gun in the season 7 finale. katy, a perfect doppelganger of clay's late wife, became obsessed with clay when she realized she could steal him away from quinn by imitating his first wife. when clay didn't end up being as gullible as katy would have hoped, she did the only logical thing and snuck into their house late at night. she then proceeded to firmly stand, confidence blazing, and shoot quinn and clay as they walked into the room.

so ends season 7. 

so after many, many months of not knowing what would happen to clay and quinn (the suspense was killing me), season 8 begins with clay dreaming. perfect! we go the whole season premiere thinking clay just dreamed the whole thing. only in the end of the episode do we find out that they were both dreaming up this perfect in-between world while being stuck in a coma. OTH producers have always been clever with these kind of devices (i.e. dream states, flashbacks, flash forwards, etc.)

My Generation S1E1

this show is meant to be relatable. i get it ironically. i'll tell you why. i know, i wasn't in high school in the year 2000. i was only in 5th grade. that's a long way off from 12th grade. i realize this. but this particular group of kids was from a high school in austin. hello, i grew up just like 45 minutes from here. every place, every road, every building shown in the show--i've seen it all. i also do remember every event or occurrence the show alludes to: 9/11, katrina, enron, britney spears. you know, all the worst things about the past ten years.

i had high, high hopes for this show. i wouldn't say it let me down because it didn't. that being said, it also didn't quite possess as strong of a 'wow' factor as i would have liked. that only means there's room for improvement. and i do have even higher hopes that it will progressively improve down the road.

for those of you who don't know, this show is a fiction documentary type. think the office minus all the humor plus thirty minutes and lots of dramatic intertwining relationships. might be unpleasant for some, but for someone who loves drama, it's just the show. hence my liking to it.

Outsourced S1E1

outsourced better be good, following the office and all.
now's a time for a good first impression.

• i'm not the only one who thinks pb&j is best served with cheetos. catch that moment?
• this show seems a bit racist. i hate to be the one to see it, but it's crude and racist. not approving.
• i do enjoy the girl who can't speak above a mute-type whisper. 

whereas this show is quite racist, it brings up a valid point that i have failed to ever think about. no, not that outsourcing is wrong. no, not that there is anything wrong with india. but when american jobs are outsourced to places that aren't familiar with american culture, it is quite a job to educate them on the 'american' ways. this brings me to my next point. why does everyone in the world have to be familiarized with america? we're not all that far above every other culture in the world. i think that's the point NBC is parody-ing (?).

The Office S7E1

3 words: BEST OPENING EVER!


my opinion of steve carrell leaving (everyone not living under a rock knows this is happening, right):
the office is probably one of the best written shows out there as far as the wit goes.  now, steve carrell is not a writer for the show, so obviously the writing will continue to be amazing after he leaves. BUT, steve carrell is one of the better executors of the writing. so it's a toss up with what will happen to the office after steve carrell leaves. as you will see in the quote list (written in the spoilers), michael has the funniest lines. but once again, the writers. they'll give that role to someone else once steve is gone, right? they have to.

30 Rock S5E1

and now begins my relationship with 30 rock:

• matt damon. can't stand him. his hair is getting gray. this makes me feel old. 
• tina fey and matt damon sitting in a tree....
• i officially want to claw my ears out. matt damon crying is quite awkward for me.  
• i love their 'would you rather...?' games. bahaha. 

i think i'll be hitting up netflix soon, so i can catch up on 30 rock. i have fours seasons, but it's been done before. it helps that each episode is only 20 minutes long. i've been missing a lot of funny stuff.

Community S2E1

thursday night is only known all across america as being the funniest night of all the nights.
if days were in high school, thursday would be the class clown.

so we begin thursday night on NBC with Community.
i watched the very first three episodes ever. since then, i haven't really cared for the show.
but i know that if i'm gonna do this, i'm going to have to devote myself to the entire NBC thursday night.
so here goes:

• betty white is in this episode. now, i'm not one of those die-hard betty white fans, but she is pretty entertaining for an 'older' woman. 
• the blonde girl on troy's back attempting to do the wave--wow, she was bad. i would be quite embarrassed if i was her watching back on this.
• as i'm watching this, i'm trying to overcome the fact that the main girl's name is britta. i just can't do it tho. britta. britta? really?
• just a forewarning: i won't have much to say about this show, tonight at least, because i have no idea what is going on. 
• that was not george clooney, just in case anyone was confused about that.
• who remembers this quote: 'i better not smile at that wall outlet or you'll fry your tongue off.'
• 20 minutes in and i'm finding that this show, although the premise is sorta lame, is very quotable. i say that, knowing that shows like the office are much more quotable. but this gives me one reason to enjoy community. i am definitely a sucker for quotastic television. 
• every show should present a man with star-shaped sideburns. community is onto something here.
• betty white has lost her voice over the years...if she ever had one.

cheers to the beginning

hello fellow television enthusiasts, welcome to tv through my eyes. this is an introduction to what this blog is all about.

just some navigation information:

• the lists to the right display the shows i watch. i understand that i may not watch all the shows you watch or vice versa. this happens. if there is a show you enjoy that you are deeply offended that i don't watch, tell me. i'll be happy to try it out. 
• now, i understand you may be concerned with spoilers. don't worry i have a fix for this. the post showing up on my front page will not contain spoilers. instead there will be a link below the initial text that will lead you to my commentary that may contain spoilers. i respect my readers and do not want to ruin anything for anyone. 
• some shows i do not watch on the night they air. this is due to the fact that i am a college student and half of my classes are at night. don't you worry though because i always catch up asap. i will blog as soon as i catch up.
• this leads me to my next point. every week, i will probably not extensively blog about every show every week. i'll try to make a comment about every show, but honestly, i will blog more about some shows than others. and some shows will be blogged about live. most shows, not so much. 
• i have very strong opinions about my shows because i've seen every episode of the shows i faithfully watched. it's okay if you don't view the same opinion as me. i expect that. some of my shows are very well defined as 'guilty pleasure' shows. i know that. so try to not insult me for liking certain things. this is an honest blog. i like what i like.
• i will probably be blogging from monday-friday. now, if you have come over from my past blog, you know sometimes i miss days (also due to my hectic college-life schedule). for this blog, i promise to make up for anything i miss. 

my first primetime recap will begin tonight. what better way to kick this blog off than to begin with NBC thursday!
just a side note, i have never enjoyed either community or 30 rock too much, but for you enthusiasts, i will watch them because not commentating on these shows would be like doing a television blog and not watching the office (unheard of).
